Sway with me Collection/Working on my shop

I have been working on getting my shop all set up and taking pictures of my Sway with me collection. 

It has been really fun seeing my hard work come together. I can actually say I am proud of what I have done and am only the tiniest bit awkward about showing my stuff to the public.

I have been inspired by my new niece to be to make a baby girl clothing collection.

Her Mommy is one stylish lady and her brothers always wear black, white and grey to church, so Naturally she will need a variety of dresses and skirts to match. :) 

I am still working on a few pieces. So hopefully soon I can show you what I have made.

All that glitters is gold

 Lately when the kids play outside Tober comes back in with some sort of gash on her feet or toes. Her flip flops just don't live up to her use of her feet.

It was time for some real shoes to save the day.

 After snapping some shots of the kids C wanted a turn. 

I made this face and he told me, "no Mom that wasn't good, just smile"

 So I did. :)

Sloppy fun sewing and some other stuff

I just want to say thank you for your lovely comments about my Postpartum body post, 

and also thank you to my husband, who always thinks I am beautiful and tells me constantly, helping me to believe it. 

And thank you hAha for making me feel comfortable in front of a camera. You always help me to capture these memories and make my vision a reality in your photos.

Today my sister in law Miss Pipsta blogged about her awesome homemade laundry detergent. I want to make some of that myself! Who wouldn't want to save money on something you use daily! if you are interested in her recipe check it out here.

SO over the weekend I stole Pip's sewing machine and set out to make a few things.

I chose simple projects, that I could complete quickly during the few moments I might have free hands. It still took me forever and was some of the worst sewing I have done in a while but it was good to have my hands busy doing something other than rocking a baby.

First I took an old black cardigan of mine and chopped it up to make a sweater for Alfy.

It was really easy, the hardest part was working with the knit.

It is so cute on him, and that makes up for all the crooked seems and rough edges.

Next I made him a pair of little shoes, from scrap pieces of fabric using a pair hAha made as an example.

And then I took a pair of 0-3 mo jeans that were about as wide as I am and took them in to fit my baby boy. Voila quick cute outfit.

Well I decided to make my own. I used a white flat sheet, charcoal grey fleece, and light grey felt, to make these...

By using fabric that doesn't fray at the edges it made this a super simple project that just adds an element of fun to our bed. 

Yay for getting my sewing fix in!!

Tober Cake is sick and needs extra love and attention right now, meaning every time I can put Alf down I must so that she can crawl into my arms. My back hurts, my house is a mess and one kid is almost always crying.
I think it is safe to say I check the clock often to see if it is almost time for Jones to come home! :)

My Lucky shoes

Anyone who know me knows that I spent all winter stomping around in these Moccasin slippers. Through rain and snow, they have seen it all and they are definitely showing it.

Around my birthday I bought these pretties, but they are more of a once a week pair of shoes.

Today I picked up these delightful Green shoes from Old Navy.

They are my lucky shoes. 

I decided that they are gonna be my constant reminder of how lucky I am. 

And even though I am getting to the point I can barely see them I know they are there. They make me feel like me, and I am lucky to be me.

Besides I needed something green for an otherwise, grey and black wardrobe :)

Couture Fashion

Sorry My last post was so random and half of a thought.

I just spent that last 2 hours on style.com researching last years and this years fall couture fashion shows. I had to right a full report on the styles, sillhuetes, colors, patterns and so on. It was extremely time consuming but very interesting.

My favorite designer of this years shows was Christian Dior. All of the other collections showed a lot boxy black and white buisnes suits and dresses. They seemed to really want to cater to the working woman which makes sense in our current economical climate. However Dior's collection could not have shouted anything more different.

His collection was a celebration of life that I could really appreciate.

I have been a little under the weather and so This is what I did with my time today. I could have cleaned, or napped but instead I sat on my couch creating Polyvore art. It was fun and even though I am wishing I could now recreate this scene in real life, totally worth the few minutes of play time. What is particularly fun about this is that I used to clip pictures out of magazines when I was a teenager. So there is a little nastalgia involved as well. Polyvore is great place to get inspiration. Like this:

Weekly challenges with Project Runway.

I was sooo excited to watch Project Runway this year. I first started watching the show when I was 8 mo's pregnant with my Son. My M-I-L had recorded a whole season on VHS tapes and since I was spending most of my days laying around with a belly the size of a watermelon, it was a fanastic distraction. At the time though I was going through a major personal crisis. Definately facing some demons and discovering what kind of wife and mother I wanted to be. I always said, "if I knew how to sew I would have made this____ ..." But truthfully I never really thought I would be able to. This is the first Season I have watched since I feel I know who I am, I am comfortable with myself and I have actually made clothing!  It is very exciting. I am hoping to get inspiration from the challenges and participate in them myself now and then. Although my Life is kind of crazy, I think that is just going to be the standard for awhile. I guess just like Tim Gunn suggests I am going to "make it work!"

Little Top For Tober

I have been meaning to make more clothes for Tober and C. This little top took me 5 minutes to make and so little fabric.

*Shirring means to gather the cloth to make decorative stitching. You use regular thread on top and elastic thread in your bobbin. You have to hand wind it and make sure your bobbing is screwed extra tight, and then just sew like normal. 

Using this techinique gives the garment a waist without needing to add a zipper or buttons.

Don't be afraid to use elastic thread, it is awesome!!

 Oh yeah and you will need to fold the bottom twice, iron and hem.

A fun little summer top.

{I'll let you in on a secret, it is actually a dress for an 18mo but to fit my 11mo I simply took in the shouders to make it a long shirt now, and will let them back out later!}

Cotton Candy By hAha and TheSpanishLady

I am going to let you in on a secret, I made this Striped wrap dress almost 3 months ago, so why the delay in pictures?

When I bought the fabric I instantly thought Carnival! I knew we couldn't just go outside and snap pictures anywhere

And

I am so glad we waited for Olympia's Lake Fair, because it provided us a great and inspiring backdrop.

{I look like a paper doll in these ones, which is uber fun}

When hAha called and said the Fair was going on I had just gotten back from Cali and as tired as I was we dragged ourselves out there.

The whole time I couldn't help but smile It was so great to be back in action with hAha

Teamwork, man, it makes a dream work.  ; )

And isn't her editing amazing! By far my favorite of our collaboritive works.

Worth the wait.

This image above was a particularly fun spot, infront of the house of mirrors. It played Mardi Gras music, and just had the perfect not forced old school vibe.

Mustaches are so coming back.

 This last picture is actually one of my favorites, Leaving, shoes off, eating the rest of the Cotton Candy, If this was my job I would have the best job in the world. Oh wait I do, because when all was said and done I got to go home to my beautiful babies and husband.

Happy Carnival Season Everyone.

Anthropologie style headband Tutorial

Today I woke up and was craving Anthro. Since it is too far away and I probably can't afford it right now anyway I went to there online shop to just look. That is when I decided to make my own little Anthro today.

Inspired by this headband

First thing I did was pul out my hot glue gun, some felt and some cream colored muslin.

Then I cut 3 circles {a little bigger than an oreo} from the felt and 3 strips of fabric {about 16in long 4in wide}

Then I pinched the end of the fabric and glued it the center of the felt circle.

Then you simple twist and glue as you go until you completely cover your felt.

Alternate between tight and loose twisting to give it a less uniformede look.

when you get to the end glue the fabric to the underside.

Next take some elastic or a headband and glue your rosettes to the elastic

for extra strength security and softness cut 3 mor felt circles and glue them to the back side over the elastic.

*I had originally intended to make them all the same size but liked the look of 3 different sizes so I simply cut them to size as I went.

And ta da my newest headband.

 It is not as elegant as the Anthro one but then neither am I so it suits me just fine!

This literally took me about 15 minutes to make, it cost close to nothing and would be super cute in a small floral  print fabric, stripe or polka dots, hmmm maybe thats what I will have to make next.

P.s. Ok now that I have thought of it I have to show you hAha's version of the rosette headband that she made earlier this year.
